According to the song "War", its good for absolutely nothing. And I really agree with this sentiment. War is ugly and gruesome. There are lots of things that would run into a grunts mind while sweeping through mine fields and war-torn areas in the middle east. First and foremost is, "What Am I Doing Here?"
Several letters and essays I've sent home tells stories of children either caught in the war as soldiers for a cause that nobody would truly understand or as civilian casualties. Orphaned and left fatherless or motherless.
And whenever I see the video for Greenday's "Wake Me Up When September Ends" I really cry. It's got a lot of sentiments the boys back East. They all want this to end. They all want to be with their family. To spend time with them.
We all wish for peace and music is a powerful weapon that can move people to think otherwise and to embrace the artist's views and opinions about war.
